Minor Blues (from the CD Pop-Culture Blues recorded by the Michael Treni Big Band) is a 12-bar blues in a minor key. Its chord structure employs a number of secondary-dominant substitutions and chord extensions which heightens the piece’s harmonic color. The theme transitions from soulful to bawdy, and is, at times, suggestive of the type of music that was played in houses of burlesque.
